Thanks to an exceptional partnership with the Forestry Commission, SVA is based in King’s Wood, Challock, Kent where it commissions artists to make work in response to the woodland environment. All the sculpture commissioned is made from natural materials found in the found in the forest or nearby. The nature of the work is that it will deteriorate over a period of time to a point where it disintegrates or is dismantled. The work will then become part of the natural forest cycle of decay and regeneration. The intention is to maintain the character of the working forest with a sustainable programme of artists’ commissions.
SVA offers an extensive education programme for students at all levels of art education and develops links and collaborations with international artists and organisations.
Partner organisations working with SVA include Kentish Stour Countryside Project, South East Arts, Kent County Council, Ashford Borough Council and Friends of King’s Wood.
